If you think beauty queens simply wake up everyday with flowing hair, stick-thin waistlines, and perfectly toned arms and legs, you’re sadly mistaken. You’d be surprised to find out how a lot of them had gone through awkward teen years and obesity. To get to where they are now, they’ve spent years of strict discipline to keep themselves fit, beautiful, shining, and deserving to wear their crown.

To many countries, including the United States, Venezuela, Mexico, Philippines, and Columbia, beauty pageants can be as big as the Super Bowl, the NBA Finals, the World Cup, and the Olympics. The biggest of these international pageants are Miss Universe, Miss World, and Miss International. The representatives from the participating countries train for many months in maintaining fitness routines, strict health, and public speaking skills.

They go through a lot of difficult challenges that are not obvious to the public. They wake up early to start their training routine and push themselves to surpass what they’ve achieved previously. Similar to these gorgeous title holders, you could also motivate yourself in becoming a better person than what you were the day before.

Achieving the results that you want will take time, so don’t lose heart if you don’t get immediate results. Better start early, though. If you are aiming for that queen-like physique when you hit the beach in summer or for when you meet your old friends in your high school reunion during the holidays, it would be a great idea to start as soon as possible.

READY TO TRAIN LIKE ROYALTY?

Nutrition. This first thing you need to focus on is the food you eat. Obviously, you won’t need to bulk up (unless you’re terribly underweight), and this will be difficult since people are generally bombarded with food and restaurant ads. Besides, who doesn’t want to eat chocolates, potato chips, spaghetti, pizza, steaks, and chili chicken wings? Oh, and you will be discouraged to intake alcoholic drinks (goodbye tequila; goodbye, red wine).

The good news is, aside from drinking a lot of water, you are encouraged to have a high-protein diet. Have meals thrice a day, but avoid fried foods because they could lead to health complications, acne, and they are good sources of additional fat. You will need to eat a lot of food rich in antioxidants to clear your skin and keep your hair shiny.

Eat lots and lots of fruits and vegetables, as well as food that are high in protein. Go to the supermarket and buy a basket full of the following: apples, avocados, bananas, blueberries, oranges, strawberries, peaches, pears, kiwi, lemons, mangoes, cherries, grapes, grapefruit, lean beef, eggs, chicken breasts, lamb, almonds, macadamia nuts, walnuts, peanuts, asparagus, bell peppers, broccoli, carrots, cucumber, kale, tomatoes, tuna, salmons, sardines, and so much more.

Exercise. To get rid of those extra fats, cellulites, saddlebags, and those jiggly, loose skin, you will need to workout. You could go to the gym to exercise or you can do it at home while watching YouTube videos or DVDs of ChaLean Extreme and Insanity.

The good thing about working out in a gym, like Equinox or Snap Fitness, is that you’ll find plenty of factors to motivate you. If you have the money, you can hire a fitness coach who can develop a plan specifically for your body type, and then both of you can set a goal on when you can expect to attain that sexy body. You can also attend group classes where you can join the other participants doing the exercises.

Luckily, with the developments in health and sport science, you won’t have to get stuck in boring routines like running on the treadmill or simple weight lifting. The other fun activities you can try are barre exercises, yoga, Zumba, Pilates, wall climbing, swimming, CrossFit, kickboxing, and cycling, among others. Furthermore, the instructors the people and in your group can motivate you, as well as assist you if you have questions in terms of moves and posture.

If gym membership will get in the way of groceries or rent however, get creative and find ways on how you can workout without spending money on facilities, equipment, and instructors. Download videos of exercises you can do at home.

Be careful, though, since working out in the house can feel like a chore, since there are so many other fun things you can do, like catching up on Game of Thrones, Empire, and How to Get Away with Murder. Aside from having stern self-discipline, it would be good to train with a partner you can trust. Someone who can inspire you to finish those crunches or complete the number of required push-ups.

Besides, it will be more fun to play the question and answer portion with another guy or girl, than by yourself facing the mirror.
