Tips to Keep in Mind on Your First Pure Barre Class

Tips to Keep in Mind on Your First Pure Barre Class

Most people aren’t familiar with Pure Barre fitness – yes even those who workout in gyms like Anytime Fitness, Fitness First and Curves. This technique is relatively new so it’s not surprising that only a few have heard of it. Basically, Pure Barre is a low impact technique that concentrates on the thighs, hips, abdominals and arms. Each strengthening section of the workout is followed by a series of stretching exercises in order to create lean and slender muscles.

If you’ve enrolled in a class – congratulations! You’re on your way to developing a healthy, fit and slender physique. Here are some tips to keep in mind for your first class:

1. Wear longer pants, shirt and socks.

Wearing long pants and shirt help you keep everything concealed. Socks will help you from slipping.

2. Keep your movements small.

In Pure Barre there are no big movements, no bouncing or rebounding. You only do isometric work on your muscles and avoid putting pressure on your joints. It is safe for all ages and even for people with some injuries.

3. Come to class early.

On your first session, you will have to fill out paperwork and get your Pure Barre accessories before class starts. It’s better to show up 10-15 minutes before the class starts so you don’t feel rushed.

4. It can be confusing in the beginning.

On your first few classes, you may not understand what you’re doing but don’t worry about it. It takes a few sessions before you’ll get the hang of things.

5. You’ll notice your muscles shaking.

When your muscles shake it means your body is working hard and you are doing it right! The goal is to get each muscle group to reach fatigue (and shake) and then when those muscles are warm you need to stretch them out in order to achieve a long lean physique.

6. Listen to your instructor.

While most classes are visual, Pure Barre is all about listening. Your instructor will guide your body deeper and mind to fully immerse in the workout.

7. Engage your abs.

One of the fundamentals of Pure Barre is the tuck. Neutralize your spine, pull your hips underneath your shoulders and engage your core. Utilize the classroom mirrors to assist you in the correct form/posture.

8. You’ll see results in a few weeks.

You will begin to notice the results in 2-3 weeks depending on how often you attend the classes! Your thighs will become tight, your waist will get slimmer, your arms and back more toned.

9. You can do this.

Don’t feel self-conscious about joining a Pure Barre class. Everyone is working so hard on achieving their own goals and they really won’t have the time or energy to pay attention to first-timers. If you’re unsure, you can always talk to your instructor who will be happy to assist you with any concerns or questions you may have relating to the class.
