You may be praised for your parenting skills including your devotion to your children but remember that you cannot give what you don’t have! You have to nurture yourself, too, because then you can become a better parent and spouse – and one of the great ways to do so is exercise. Yes, when you exercise, you enjoy physical and mental benefits that translate to a better person.
Here are a few tips that you can apply to find me-time through exercise as soon as possible.
Start Slow and Steady
You can start with 30 to 60 minutes of cardio fitness classes at Bally Fitness, at least twice a week. You don’t have to work out five days a week for starters – a slow and steady start is better than a fast and furious end. You will also have time for your other roles as a parent and spouse yet also carve out time for yourself.
You can also exercise at home but it has its problems, too, such as the kids being in the way. Your best bet to get your workout and get your groove on is at the gym where like-minded people are present. You will definitely find new friends and inspirations in your life here.
Work Out When the Kids Are Occupied
With older kids and teenagers, you don’t have to watch them all the time like you did when they were toddlers and pre-schoolers. You can work out at the gym while they are at their soccer practice or ballet rehearsals instead of sitting around watching them do their moves.
With everybody pumped up from the exercise, your family will likely be happier. Nobody becomes grumpy after an adrenaline rush, after all, not to mention that exercise is great for adults and children in the long run.
Remember Who You Are
Yes, you are a devoted parent now but remember that you were a unique individual before parenthood came along, so to speak. You must then remember who you are and find me-time activities including the type of exercises that suit your personality.
Nobody says that it’s easy to find time for yourself and yourself alone but it’s possible. You just have to be creative and committed to the process.
